Shelley: Day 11

PHOTO: Will in the maze at Happy Hallow with his new hat he can't take off. . .not for lack of trying.
PHOTO: Will in the maze again, we walked, and walked, and walked!

So many good things about today, oh where to start? This morning I woke up after sleeping THE WHOLE NIGHT!!!!!! Yep, Will (who is nearly 12 months old) slept from 10:00pm-8:30am!!!! (There just aren't enough exclamation points for this!!!!!) Will has been getting up every two to four hours for the past several weeks and WOW what an amazing difference it is to wake up naturally, in the morning! So needless to say I had a TON of energy!

When Will went down for his first nap I made a snap decision to take him to Happy Hollow a local kid's park and zoo. I was hoping by wearing him out he might just sleep through the night again. If you knew my little guy you would be amazed at just how much it takes to wear him out. I let him walk all over the park. He got in the goat pen (I was the one who actually fed the goats while he watched because they were just a little too aggressive for his pint size for my taste), he made faces at the ponies, and he had so much fun running around this maze they had. I would put him in the back of it and he would find his way out. I'm telling you, my little guy is a genius. Additionally, I walked a lot which was also a nice change. He was so tired he actually fell asleep in the stroller which he has never done before. Clearly, the only rational thing to do was to buy a season pass, so I did.

The only let down was the food. I had hoped, being that this is California, there would be baked chicken breast tenders, fresh fruit, plain yogurt, etc., but no such luck. So, I made do. They had a condiment bar for the burgers (which I did not order) and I snagged some tomatoes for Will and I and some dill pickles just for me. I also got Will some yogurt (though it had too much sugar in my opinion to be considered kid's food) and fries (I felt like such a bad Mom feeding him that stuff but he needed to eat so there we are. Next time I'll go better prepared. I had a Fiber One Brownie (which I happened to have in my bag), tomatoes, and pickles and I am very proud to say I only had three of his fries (which were small). It was an indulgence but I didn't let it go too far which is a nice change for me.

All in all, a great day! Let's hope for an equally great night!
